Star Trek Quogs was one of many licensed themes on the GoAnimate.com website. Based on the Star Trek franchise and 1966 classic series that started it all, the theme was a part of a multi-faceted cartoon project that CBS/Paramount Pictures initiated in 2009 to appeal to younger and older audiences. The theme was released on February 2, 2009 to coincide the release of 2009 Star Trek reboot. It has many characters like Kirk, Spock, and McCoy (formerly known as Bones).
Before June 3, 2009, five characters (Nurse Chapel, Gorn, Mara, and two Klingons) were created and added in for "The Backstory" contest, where GoAnimators would make their own origins of the characters in the franchise and earn prizes.
In August/September 2012, Alvin Hung announced that the Star Trek theme will be taken down in the site's forums, and it has on September 10, 2012. It was the second to last licensed theme to ever be taken down. And because this is a licensed theme, it was impossible for videos saved as draft or private with the theme involved to publish. An alternative space/sci fi theme called Space Citizens took its place in December 2012. Even then, the takedown of the theme led to the absence of many popular GoAnimators. The Star Trek videos were still watchable until the middle of 2017, when GoAnimators used Requestly to bring it back.
